Dominic Fike - Açai Bowl - Review

Dominic Fike seemingly came out of nowhere and made a name for himself in the music industry. I myself discovered him through some of the members of the BROCKHAMPTON crew who were posting songs of his on their Instagram stories off of his 2018 EP "Don't Forget About Me, Demos". The crew later came to befriend Dominic and even had Kevin Abstract direct a short film for the highest charting song off his project "3 Nights", a personal favorite song of mine coming out of 2018. After a short hiatus from dropping anything he recently put out "Açai Bowl" and "Rollerblades" and I'm only going to review the first because no offence to Dominic but man, "Rollerblades" is a bore, like just no connection between me and the song. The song starts off with some pretty basic chords that lead into a booming auto-tuned chorus, I adore his vocal inflexions on the hook makes it really catchy but also intriguing at the same time. The first verse is cool and all but the auto-tune takes up a lot of room on that part. The drums aren't anything special but they fit the tone of the song and they don't sound like an overblown trap beat. The bridge is gorgeous, which is crazy every bridge I've listened to recently has just been fire. The second verse has way less auto-tune and personally I find it has a lot more personality than the first. Pretty basic lyrical content, he's talking about a love interest, most likely his current girlfriend who is by his side no matter what by the sounds of it. Overall a really catchy tune that's made it into my heavy rotation. Solid 7.5/10.
