About 7 months ago Joji released "Ballads 1" a collection of lo-fi well, ballads, that sadly even with the amazing singles that led up to it such as "SLOW DANCING IN THE DARK" and "YEAH RIGHT" didn't end up connecting with me much, it ended up being a little bit repetitive and not in the sense that like he said the same phrases a lot, but more like every song ended up fading together, but the few singles that came out ahead of it are still in rotation on the regular. Anyways, about a week ago Joji dropped "Sanctuary" a lovey-dovey single where the sanctuary in this case is not a place but, a person, more specifically a love interest. Now honestly at first I found the song really boring but when the music video came out it brought a whole new life to it, the beat ended up sounding a lot more spacey than it did originally given the music video looks like a 70s sci-fi epic. The song is probably also one of Joji's best vocal performances since "SLOW DANCING IN THE DARK", he's left that one toned emotionless voice of his in the past (although I gotta say I didn't have anything against it. "Will He" and "Demons" are still straight melodic bangers). So yeah, Joji sounds great here, the beat is super spacey and helps convey this message of looking for a home like he's some kind of planet hunter like in Star Trek. Anyways, solid 7/10 and I'm looking forward to new music from Filthy Frank himself.
